Alan Bennett

Alan Bennett joined us in 1979 for Ruddigore. His remarkable voice and acting skills saw him rapidly become an indispensable lead character in many of our shows.

Alan shot to fame as Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore, a role he was to repeat with great success in future productions.

One of his favourite parts was the amiable Dr Daly in The Sorcerer.

Of course Alan was more than a lead performer. His remarkable talent as an engineer and fabricator produced many of our most memorable props. Our stage has been graced with everything from working lanterns, through pirate Sam’s tool bag to a full set of Yeomen’s halberds. All historically correct of course.

Need a spectacular cannon? Well we could buy or hire one, but no. Alan made this one for us instead. It made a most satisfactory noise too!

Alan is of course still very active in our society. His latest contribution being some fine solos in Wolverton G&S at 50!
