Iolanthe
or The Peer and the Peri
Five Fairies

The first production
Wolverton G&S have performed Iolanthe 5 times.
Our first production of Iolanthe came just two years after that first HMS Pinafore. The 1977 production was performed at Wolverton College of Further Education and directed by H. Milwood Wildey. The musical director was Arnold Jones.
Our picture is an AI enhanced copy of an original 1977 photograph. It shows our founding chairman Fred Cornford as a peer. Tony Selby was Tolloller and Tom Clayton played the part of Mountararat. Derek Field was Strephon and our president Angela Bowen was fair Phyllis. Pamela Scott was in the title role.
More Iolanthes followed in 1987, 1998 and 2008. Our most recent performance was in 2019 when Mike Crofts and Graham Breeze were joined by choreographer Chris Bradley to head up a superbly gothic production.
That 2019 show had Graham Mitchell and Alan Bennett as the Earls competing with the rest of the peers for the hand of Phyllis, played by Cat Lee. Paula Fraser was Queen while Liz Carter was Iolanthe.
