The Zoo
Two Zoos

The first production
Wolverton G&S have performed The Zoo twice.
The Zoo is a bit of an outlier. The music is all Sullivan, but Gilbert had no part in the libretto. That was written by B. C. Stephenson, writing under the pen name of Bolton Rowe. Zoo was pretty much lost after its initial run until 1966 when it was republished in the form we have today.
Our first production of The Zoo was in 2005. The Zoo is quite short at about 40 minutes so it is usually presented along with other works. In 2005 it was performed alongside a remarkable 23 other G&S hits!
Our photograph shows three of the Great British Public as our chorus were called. Left to right we have Chris Worton, Mark Williamson and Katie Thomas.
That show was directed by Graham Breeze and the musical director was Mike Crofts.
In 2014 the same team headed up our latest performance of The Zoo so far. That time it was performed along with HMS Pinafore, another fairly short show.
