Other shows in our Celebration!

Wolverton G&S have performed over 25 shows by other artists.

There’s quite a list and we chose to feature some of the finest in our jubilee concert.

“I Love Paris” comes from “Can Can” by Cole Porter. Cath Bromley sang it in our 2004 production “Around the World in Song”. Lynn Homer directed that concert with Kim Bennett as musical director.

“Look at Me I’m Dancing” was of course from the fabulous “Salad Days” composed by Julian Slade. We performed it in 2010 with Richard Duncombe as the Tramp and Paula Fraser as Jane. Timothy was played by Will Dyson. “Salad Days” was a Mike Crofts and Graham Breeze production.

The poignant song “Soldier Lad” is from the Ivor Novello musical play “Valley of Song” which we performed in 2014. Our cover photo is an AI enhanced image of Roger Whatmore as Gwillim romancing Maria, played here by Jo Bigg.

That show was also directed by Graham Breeze and the musical director was Mike Crofts.

The Waltz “Over the Waves” by Juventino Rosas was in “A Transport of Delights”, our 2022 joint production with the Wolverton Light Orchestra directed by Graham Mitchell. The musical director was Mike Crofts.

“Falling Snow” by Enya is from Wolverton Light Orchestra’s 2023 Christmas Concert.

“What a Life” and “Women’s Clothes” are both from Ron Pember’s musical play “Jack the Ripper” which we have performed twice now, in 2017 and 2023. The 2017 production was directed by Graham Breeze and Mike Crofts was the musical director. Paula Fraser directed our 2023 show and musical direction was by Kim Bennett.

The one that got away. We were just a week away from performing the hit musical “Calamity Jane” by Sammy Fain when Covid closed all theatres.

That lost show was directed by Graham Breeze and the musical director was Mike Crofts.

We’re reprising two numbers to remind us of what might have been, and may still be, our biggest musical. “Black Hills of Dakota” and “Higher Than A Hawk”.

Our Cocker-Knee London Medley is from “Cowardy Custard” by Noël Coward. We performed that show in 2008 at the Arts Barn in Great Linford. Another Graham Breeze and Mike Crofts winner.

Finally in this section we have “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park” by Tom Lehrer.

This song was one of the “Party Pieces” in our 2006 summer show. It was sung by Kim Bennett and Cath Bromley.
